5 seafood recipes to add to your festive braai menu

There’s more to braaiing fish than snoek. Make your braai a stand-out with shisanyama-style kabeljou. This may just be our new favourite way to serve braaied fish.

Summer is finally here and that means the braais won’t stop. With the season for hosting around the corner, there’s nothing as easy as hosting a braai. Make it a budget-friendly gathering with a bring-and-braai theme, or go all out with whole braaied fish and epic sides. Woolworths offers a wide range of fish and seafood that you can braai, grill, fry and poach. The options are endless, so don’t limit yourself.

1. Shisanyama-style kabeljou

Woolworths’ new shisanyama-style kabeljou is what your braai menu is missing this summer! Spiced with a traditional, smoky shisanyama-inspired dry rub, this sustainably farmed kabeljou is flaky, full of flavour and super-easy to prepare. Prepare the shisanyama-style kabeljou according to package instructions. Serve with traditional braai sides, such as pap, tomato-and-onion relish and potato salad. Or braai some fresh greens – we love green beans or peas in their pods – and top with basil pesto and a squeeze of lime juice.

2. Blackened trout

If you’ve ever been intimidated by cooking a whole trout, this is the ultimate foolproof recipe. The wet rub really packs a flavour punch and the fish is beautifully succulent – a great way to feed a crowd.

3. Braaied paella

Paella on the braai? It can and should be done! Cooking this classic Spanish dish over hot coals guarantees a crispy crust and your fish and seafood cook perfectly. This is a one-pot wonder that will definitely have your guests dishing up seconds.

4. Braaied smoked trout

Fish and chips, but make it braai! This recipe is perfect for those impromptu, laid-back braais with close family and friends. There may be less to “ooh” and “aah” about, but the flavour is all there, and frankly, that’s all that counts.

5. Braaied fish parcels

Take fish to the next level by dipping it in an Asian-inspired sauce, then wrapping it in sheets of nori, followed by tin foil to make sure the fish stays nice and juicy. The look on everyone’s faces when you unwrap the foil at the table? Priceless.
