5 wintry breakfasts to kick-start your day

By Hannah Lewry, 10 August 2016

Breakfast really should be the meal of champions but, with busy schedules, it’s not always easy to get it right. These 5 wholesome breakfasts will kick-start your day on the right note, every time.

I once read you should eat breakfast within an hour of waking up – perhaps in an ideal world that’s possible. I happen to press the snooze button one too many times at the expense of my breakfast. No more! Here are my quick-and-easy solutions to breakfast this winter, whether it’s over a lazy weekend or on the go before a busy day!

The new pancake

These are pancakes with a difference: they haven’t got one bit of flour in them! Made with banana and egg, it doesn’t get easier than this.

Fuss-free toast

Bread gets such a bad rap these days – but I was once told it’s not the bread that’s the problem, it’s what you put on it! To remedy this, we give you the best and tastiest toast to start your day!
Try: Banana, honey and nut-butter breakfast toast recipe.

Breakfast bowls

Everyone’s talking about it: breakfast in a bowl seems to be the latest food trend. If you’re going to follow the trend, do it right! Here is the best recipe to do it with – and it’s dairy and gluten free!
Try: Sweet quinoa cooked in almond milk.

Wonderful waffles

Waffles are one of those fanatastic things to eat that you never really have time to make yourself. That’s why we have given Woolies’ wonderous waffles the spotlight with this must-try savoury wintry breakfast.
Try: Welsh rarebit waffles.

The perfect make-ahead breakfast

Jason’s Bakery in Cape Town doesn’t part with recipes easily, so when they decided to dish the deets on these magnificent morsels we were falling over ourselves to try them out. Get the recipe for Jason's eggies here.

If you want an all protein fix, this honey-and-chipotle glazed pork sausages is the recipe for you!

If all else fails, Woolies has you covered…

Grab one of these tasty beauties on your way to work. They are my go-to breakfast solution when a busy morning gets the best of me:

Something sweet: Cinnamon sugar mini pancakes

Something savoury: Smoked ham cheese sandwich

Something fresh and light: Queen pineapple snackpot

Something hot and tasty: Bacon cheese omelette

The cinnamon and sugar mini pancakes pack at Woollies are certainly in need of extra attention. They have very little cinnamon on, no sugar and are very dry.
