Macerate

Maceration refers to the soaking of foods in a liquid, usually alcoholic, to soften them.

You can for instance macerate strawberies. 

Macerated strawberries:

Bring 250 ml of sweet sherry and 1/2 cup sugar to the boil. Add 300 g halved strawberries and allow to cool. Delicious with vanilla ice cream or as a topping for cheesecake.
