Make pizza bases

Making your own pizza bases is a great way to keep the kids entertained and into the kitchen. Make a pile of pizza bases and freeze them, then simply whip out of the freezer and add your favourite toppings.

Method

  1. Sift 1.4 kg cake flour  and 1 T salt into a large plastic bowl. Add 11/2 T sugar and 4 x 7 g packets instant dry yeast.

    Step 1

  2. Mix 4 T oil and 1 litre warm water and add to the flour. Mix to form a soft dough.

    Step 2

  3. Turn out onto a large lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth.

    Step 3

  4. Grease a bowl, add the dough, cover and place in a warm place to rise for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size. Knock down with your fist (a slight punch) and knead until smooth.

    Step 4

  5. Divide into about 10 to 12 balls and roll out thinly on a floured surface. Layer the pastry discs with clingwrap and freeze.

    Step 5

  6. To use, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with dried oregano, spread with crushed canned tomatoes, garlic and salt and add your favourite toppings.

    Step 6

  7. Finish off with grated mozzarella. Bake at 200°C until the base is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

    Step 7
