Situated north of Swellendam, under the towering Langeberg Mountains, Jan Harmsgat has a unique position bordering the dry Karoo, with sea breezes from the coast keeping things cooler. The Fairtrade-accredited farm focuses on single-block wines, made with minimal interference, spontaneous fermentation and no added enzymes during fermentation. The Shiraz boasts flavours of dark chocolate and cherries, while the Chardonnay has citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. The farm is also home to a five-star guesthouse, perfect for family holidays and romantic getaways with breakfasts under the pecan trees and meals in the on-site restaurant, prepared using farm produce.
