Buttery, Cardamom-spiced Apple Crumble
Ingredients
- 6 Woolworths Golden Delicious Apples
- 1/4 cup Woolworths Sun Dried Seedless Raisins
- 1 Fresh Lemon
- 1 tablespoon Cinnamon Powder
- 4 tablespoons Woolworths Brown Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Freshly Ground Cardamom Powder (Elachie)
- 3/4 cup Woolworths Cake Flour
- 1/4 cup Oats
- 100 grams Woolworths Fresh Butter
- a pinch Sea Salt

Filling:
Peel the apples thinly. De-seed, remove the core and cut into slices.
Coat the cut apples slices well with cinnamon powder,cardamom powder (1/4 teaspoon), sugar and lemon juice.
In a large saucepan, add the apple peels and a teaspoon of sugar, to a cup of boiling water.
Bring to the boil until slightly syrup-like in consistency. Remove the peels and discard.
Now add the coated sliced apples, along with the raisins to this syrup. Add another cup of boiling water and allow the apples to cook and simmer on medium to low heat for approximately 10-15 minutes.
Crumble:
Combine the flour, oats, cardamom powder (1/4 teaspoon), sugar, salt and butter together.
Using the rubbing method, the mixture should resemble rough bread crumbs.
Empty the cooked apple mixture into a stoneware pie baking dish.
Now layer the crumble flour mixture on top. Pat gently using your fingers.
Bake:
In a preheated oven bake at 200 degrees celsius for approximately 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
Garnish: Thinly sliced apples. Cinnamon Powder. A dusting of powdered sugar.
Serve:
Serve warm on its own, or with a light drizzle of honey, fresh cream or custard.
