Not enough is said or written about the old-fashioned. It’s delicious. It’s classy. It’s versatile in the sense that it can be enjoyed at the start of a proper night out or as a low-key nightcap. If you haven’t had one or made one before, you’re in for a treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 - 2 t 1–2 t simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura® Aromatic Bitters
  • ice, for serving
  • orange peel
  • 60 ml rye whiskey or bourbon
  • maraschino cherry, for serving (optional)

Cooking Instructions

1. Place the sugar syrup and bitters in an old-fashioned (or lowball) glass and stir.
2. Top up halfway with ice. Twist a piece of orange peel above the glass to release some of the oils into the glass, then place the peel in the glass.
3. Add more ice, followed by the whiskey or bourbon. Stir until chilled. Top with a splash of soda water if you prefer and garnish with the maraschino cherry if using.
