You may think you know kiwis, but this one is different. The Zespri Vita SunGold™ kiwi has, as its name suggests, a warm sunny colour and, in contrast to the fuzzy skin of the green kiwi, a smooth, hairless skin. It also has a smaller core and fewer seeds. Plus, its flavour is much more tropical – some say it tastes like a cross between a strawberry and a mango. Sounds like the perfect ingredient for a delicious ‘sunny’ side up breakfast, don’t you think?
For a SunGold™ & citrus juice:
In a blender, combine: the juice of ½ ruby grapefruit, the juice of 1 big naartjie, minneola or orange, juice of ½ lemon, 1t fresh grated ginger, ½ t fresh grated turmeric, and 2 Zespri Vita SunGold™ kiwi fruits, peeled. Blend well, pour into a glass and drink up!
For the tropical chia breakfast bowl:
Pour 1 cup coconut milk over ¼ cup chia seeds. Add 2 t honey, 1 t vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Mix well and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight. Top with slices of peeled Zespri Vita SunGold™ kiwi fruit, a scoop of coconut yoghurt, or Woolworths cultured coconut, toasted coconut flakes, pistachios, a teaspoon of nut butter, 1 T granadilla pulp, freshly grated coconut and a drizzle of honey (optional). Dig in!
