Steak 101: it’s all about timing

By TASTE, 29 March 2017

Learn how to raise the steaks on weeknight dinners once and for all.

IT’S ALL IN THE TIMING

Don’t forget that steak will continue to cook after you let it rest. Cardinal rule: do not overcook it!

Follow these timings for perfect results with a 3.3 cm-thick steak:

FOR A RARE STEAK
Want dark red meat with some juices flowing? Cook that steak for 2.5 minutes on each side.

FOR A MEDIUM RARE STEAK
Prefer it pink with pink juices? Cook that steak for 3.5 minutes on each side.

FOR A MEDIUM STEAK
Prefer it pale pink? Cook that steak for 4.5 minutes on each side.

FOR A WELL DONE STEAK
Prefer it slightly pink? Cook that steak for 5 minutes on each side.
