Why pork is perfect for your summer menu

By TASTE, 1 December 2020

Silly season is upon us (even though it might look and feel a bit different this year), so don’t forget to work some succulent pork into your summer menus.

Budget-friendly and so versatile, quality South African pork should definitely be part of your Christmas or New Year’s table. What could be more festive, or flavourful, than a couple of Kassler chops, glazed and grilled on the braai? And don’t forget about the appeal of a pork steak – don’t these sticky plum grilled pork rump steaks look simply smashing?

SERVING SUGGESTION:

Sear 8 pork rump steaks on a smoking-hot griddle pan or on a smouldering braai. Take care not to overcook them, they are best enjoyed slightly pink on the inside and caramelised on the outside. Baste with a sticky plum sauce for the last 5 minutes of cooking time. Allow to rest before slicing. Serve with grilled honey-butter-basted stone fruit, a lemon-and-garlic butter sauce, steamed asparagus, crispy onions or croutons and roast potatoes.
