6 ways with rice

Start expanding your rice horizons with these 6 new ways with the pantry staple. From creamy risotto in a stuffing, to glossy black grains in a protein-packed salad, these are your best winter fall backs.

It's filling, it's warming and it won't put you in a gluten coma.

Basmasti Rice

Basmati is a long-grain aromatic rice that's grown on the Indian subcontinent and is best served with curries, breyanis and pilaus.
Try: Breyani-inspired fragrant rice

Cauli-rice

This one is for the low-carb devotees. Make your own cauli-rice in a food processor or by chopping it finely - or buy the convenient ready-made version from Woolies. Delicious with curries, salads and stir-fries.
Try: Coconut-dressed cauli-rice winter salad

Black rice

Black rice is a wholegrain rice with a mild nutty flavour similar to brown rice. It's popular in Thai and Indonesian cooking.
Try: Black rice with avocado and seared salmon.

Risotto (arborio) rice

Woolworths' risotto or arborio rice is a shortgrain rice grown in Italy, which has a creamy chewy consistency ideal for use in risotto or rice pudding.
Try: Parmesan-and-sesame rice buns with roast garlicky mushrooms and this risotto-stuffed squash with Parmesan and pancetta.

Carnaroli rice

Carnaroli rice is a medium grain rice which can be used as an alternative to pudding or risotto (arborio) rice.
Try: Cardamom-and-rose almond milk rice pudding
