9 reasons to eat a first course like the Italians
Dinner time (well, any meal really) is an event in Italy, and we don’t see any reason why we can’t do the same.
Antipasto (plural antipasti) is the traditional first course of a formal Italian meal.
They typically include cured meats such as pancetta, prosciutto, salami, ham, pepperoni, mortadella (a large Italian sausage, usually sliced) and smoked chicken or fish. It’s complemented with fresh or pickled seasonal produce including mushrooms, anchovies, artichoke hearts, cheese and sometimes fresh seasonal fruits such as melon.
The contents of the first course vary according to the different regions of Italy. Many compare hors d'oeuvre with antipasti, but they differ in that they are served at the table and signify the start of an authentic Italian meal.
And so, we present 9 reasons why you should have a first course before dinner, just like the Italians. Buon appetito!
