From one Muslim mom to another: 2 ingredients you have to stock up on this Ramadan

By Bashiera Parker, 18 February 2026

From one Muslim mom to another, Ramadan always arrives faster than we expect. Between suhoor, iftar, and keeping the household moving, having the right staples on hand can make all the difference. These two ingredients aren’t just convenient – they quietly carry you through the month with ease.

It’s 5 pm and you’ve just wrapped things up at work. But as you clock out mentally from your 9-5, your mind switches over to the 5-9 shift. It begins on your way to pick up the kids, and although you aren’t preparing yourself for a Teams meeting, you're trying to figure out something just as important, if not more so, while fasting during longer, hotter summer days this Ramadan. The question on your mind: what’s for dinner?

Woolworths' 1 kg frozen Halaal beef lasagne and 1 kg frozen Halaal macaroni cheese offer the perfect combination of convenience, generous portion size, and trusted Halaal certification. Both meals are fully prepared and frozen, so you can store them in your freezer and simply heat when needed.

From a very young age, iftar has always meant loads of savoury treats, some sweets too, followed by a hearty meal cooked by my mom. And while I do love all the prep and meal-planning that goes into my iftar menu, I’m also realising that there’s so much more to the holy month of Ramadan – and they’re the most important things.

This Ramadan, I want to spend my time getting closer to my creator, being mindful, giving to the less fortunate, and spend less time in the kitchen and more time with the ones I love: my husband, my babies and my mom, who always tells me she didn’t have a “Woolworths nani (grandmother)” when we were growing up.

Thankfully, after that 9-5, I do. And without compromising on the hearty and wholesome foods we so desperately crave.

It’s Woolworths’ recently launched 1 kg frozen Halaal beef lasagne to the rescue, made with a Bolognese sauce layered with fresh pasta. The pasta is made using durum wheat semolina and free-range eggs, and the creamy béchamel sauce is topped with Cheddar cheese. You can bake it from frozen – it’s on the table in 45–50 minutes.

And if the kids are truly craving something super-creamy and delicious, Woolworths' 1 kg frozen Halaal macaroni cheese bakes in the same amount of time, and is made with fresh macaroni smothered in a rich cheese sauce.

This Ramadan, I'm choosing to honour my mother's sacrifices differently. Whereas she spent countless hours in the kitchen, I'm choosing to spend those precious moments sitting beside her, while Woolworths' Halaal freezer range does all the hard work.

This means serving my family and myself in more ways than one. It means being present for the conversations and connections that make iftar truly special.
