5 easy peasy custardy desserts
A good-quality custard like Woolworths’ fresh custard is one of those moreish guilty pleasures that is quite the treat on its own. But in case you need some inspiration other than eating it straight from the tub this winter, here are some easy dessert recipes to try it in.
Berry custard slice
Sprinkle a sheet of thawed Woolworths all-butter puff pastry with brown sugar to coat it evenly coat, then bake at 200°C for 15–20 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Once cooled, spoon over 1 cup Woolworths custard and top with seasonal berries such as halved gooseberries or thawed frozen summer berries. Serve with a dusting of icing sugar.
Roast fruit and custard yoghurt
Peel, core and cut 2 apples into quarters, place in a roasting dish, dot with 100 g butter, sprinkle over 50 g brown sugar and drizzle over a squeeze of lemon juice. Roast for 20 minutes at 180°C. Add 100 g halved strawberries and another 1 T sugar and roast for a futher 10 minutes until slighty soft and oozy. Fold 1 cup Woolworths custard into ½ cup Woolworths plain yoghurt and serve with the warm fruit.
Custard and malva pudding
Simply pour over Woolworths custard over Woolworths’s warm malva pudding and sprinkle with pomegranate rubies for an effortlessly chic dessert!
Custard crêpe cake
Defrost 1 x 360 g box Woolworths ready-made pancakes in the microwave until warmed through. Layer the pancakes, alternating with layers of Woolworths custard and whipped cream between each pancake. Top with one a final layer of custard and thinly sliced poached pears or oozy berry compote to serve.
Caramel and strawberry custard trifle
Build the base of the trifle using Woolworths’ mini caramel and buttercream Swiss rolls and place snugly in the bottom of four glasses. Finely dice 100 g strawberries, toss in 2 T caster sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice, then spoon over the Swiss roll layer. Top with Woolworths fresh custard and finish with a layer of whipped cream. Serve topped with crushed peanut brittle.
