5 wholesome dishes that will put you in a good mood

We can’t explain it, but food definitely has the ability to alter your mood. What we do know that when you eat quality, wholesome dishes you will always feel good. Good ingredients are key to Khanya Mzongwana’s feel-good eating plan. She shares recipes packed with greens, grains, nuts and oily fish.

1. Pumpkin chowder with salmon

When I want to give myself a lift I make salmon fillets with a comforting, creamy, slightly sweet pumpkin chowder.

2. Roast chicken salad

My theory is that crispy roast chicken skin can lift the lowest of moods! I’ve used kombucha here because it’s brilliant for the gut, which I call the convention centre of my body because when it’s in good shape, many other things seem to function more smoothly.

3. Walnut tshidzimba

This plant-based dish, which originates in Venda, has become my go-to way of cooking umngqusho. Peanuts add texture and the walnuts give a nutty sweetness and crunch.

4.Green caponata

My version of caponata is just as simple as the original, with added spinach. I include dark leafy greens in my meals to give my immune system well-deserved support.
