Ingredients

Method
    Mix together:

  • 500 g minced lamb (beef or chicken would be good too)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 teblespoon finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1-2 chopped red chillies
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt to taste

Shape the mixture into 5cm cylinders and thread onto skewers.

Cook over hot coals or under a hot grill, for 5 minutes a side or until just cooked through.

Serve hot with white rice and a chilli sauce or chutney on the side.

Take five familiar ingredients - curry powder, red chillies, garlic, onion and fresh coriander - use them in a new way, and suddenly you're cooking Kenyan. These kebabs are popular street food in Mombasa, Kenya. They are aromatic with spices - the result of the influence of the large Indian population.

These popular minced lamb kebabs are grilled over wood braziers. Make them for a Sunday braai or cook them under the oven grill.
