3 dinner hacks for emergency entertaining
When you next find yourself having to entertain guests at the last minute, keep calm and follow Clement Pedro’s easy-peasy dinner hacks that will make you the star of the night
Here’s the situation: you get home ready to indulge in a night of nothing but your favourite series, some leftover spag Bol and a glass of juicy red, when suddenly you remember that tonight just happens to be the night that you’ve promised to entertain your lovely neighbors while listening to them talk about their recent visit to the Wild Coast and look at their holiday snaps, 600 of which are selfies.
What do you do?
Besides faking your death, I see no other way of getting out of it, but at least I have a simple solution for dinner. Bring on the shelfhack!
STARTERS
ZERO-EFFORT PRAWN COCKTAIL
Ripe avo + Woolies prawn cocktail + Woolies cheese-and-poppy seed straws
Roughly cube the avo and place in a martini glass, yes a martini glass, why can’t you be fancy midweek?
Top with the prawn cocktail before adding a cheese-and-poppy seed straw to complete the cocktail-themed starter.
You could also sprinkle over some chopped chives to make this golden oldie as posh as a mom with a double-barreled surname doing her midweek Woolworths shopping in her Louboutins – now that’s posh!
MAIN COURSE
FOUR-INGREDIENT GREEK BURGER
Woolworths lamb meatballs + ciabatta rolls + Woolies garlic butter + Woolies tzatziki
Cook the lamb meatballs in a griddle pan until charred on both sides and still slightly pink in the middle, pressing down slightly to get that patty shape.
Halve the buns and toast in the garlic butter. Top half a bun with a lamb patty and spoon over some tzatziki.
No utensils means no extra washing up, which means you’re winning.
DESSERT
Woolworths’ chocolate mousse caramel hidden-centre cupcakes + Ken Forrester Noble Late Harvest
Yes, just two ingredients that will make you look like an absolute rock star!
This combo makes for the ultimate no-stress dessert and doesn’t fall short on the indulgence factor either.
Love your thinking! With some imagination, can stretch to other ingredients/ideas too :)
