Much-awarded La Colombe restaurant reopens
TASTE Food Editor Abigail Donnelly shares the recent dining experience she had at the newly relocated La Colombe Restaurant in Cape Town
La Colombe now boasts a great new spot situated high up on Silvermist Estate in Constantia. The view of tall eucalyptus trees makes you feel as if you’re sitting in a fancy treehouse. The décor is understated and contemporary, and although the kitchen is open plan, it does not take centre stage. Chef Scot Kirton and his team are not shy about show off their inspirational food. It’s finger-licking good and that’s exactly what I did with a couple of the dishes. Scot uses seasonal ingredients and top-quality produce in quite a playful way. My favourite was the scallops and pork belly with kimchi. The palate cleanser was a revelation too: an ultra-smooth cocoa butter ball that popped to reveal a liquid citrus essence. The new restaurant is a real treat and, judging by the waiting list, it’s just what diners want.
