Ingredients

Method
  • 8 fresh figs
  • 50 g Grana Padano cheese, finely grated
  • 4 sheets filo pastry, thawed if frozen
  • 25 g melted butter
  • 8 t clear honey
  • salad or herb leaves to garnish

Finely grated Grana Padano is used to fill these wonderful filo-wrapped figs – perfect for serving as a deliciously different snack or as a clever alternative to dessert to finish off a meal.

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/fan oven 180°C/Gas Mark 6.

2. Split each fig crosswise from the top, opening them out slightly. Share the

grated Grana Padano between them, packing it into the cuts.

3. Cut each filo pastry sheet into 4 rectangles measuring approximately 22 x

12cm (9 x 5 inches). Brush each piece with melted butter, then layer up two

sheets to give you 8 separate piles. Fold these in half lengthways, then wrap

around the figs. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and brush with any

remaining butter.

4. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until light golden brown. Cool for a few minutes, then

drizzle each one with 1 teaspoon of honey. Serve, garnish with salad leaves or

herbs.

Cook’s Tip: To convert this recipe to a canapé, wrap each fig in a slice of prosciutto instead of filo pastry and bake for 5-6 minutes.
