White samp (umngqusho omhlophe)



This traditional white samp (umngqusho omhlophe) recipe is a hearty, comforting dish, perfect as a standalone meal or served alongside a rich stew. With just four simple ingredients, it’s easy to prepare and full of flavour.

- 450 g samp
- 1 litre water
- 1 T salt
- 100 g butter

Ingredients
1. Place the samp and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add more water if you prefer a soupy consistency and a little more salt if you like.
2. Stir in the butter and serve on its own, or alongside vegetables and a meaty stew.
