Ingredients

Method
  • 2 cups water
  • a pinch salt
  • 375 g maize meal
  • 1 x 400 g can kidney beans
  • 1 T butter

1. Place the water and salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Gradually add the maize meal and stir until well mixed.

2. Add the kidney beans and stir to mash. Cover the saucepan and cook over a medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the butter.

Cook's note: This recipe is a Zulu favourite that is both filling and delicious. It is one of these dishes that really goes the distance and keeps you fuller for longer
