3 ways to make oats great again
Fantasising about a breakfast food that’s exciting and portable? Try one of these 3 ways to make your weekday breakfast something to look forward to.
Soak oats in buttermilk:
This needs a little planning. Mix the oats and the buttermilk, cover and chill for two hours. Serve topped with grated apple, fresh blueberries and toasted almonds. Try the buttermilk-soaked oats with berries recipe here.
Add cream to your oats:
Place 1 cup oats in a saucepan and just cover with water simmer for 10–15 minutes, adding warm milk as the oats absorb the liquid. When the oats are tender, remove from the heat and add a swirl of cream. Serve topped with caramelised bananas and a dusting of nutmeg. Try the creamy oats with caramelised banana recipe here.
Soak oats overnight:
Place 200 g oats, the juice of 8 oranges, 2–3 grated apples, 3 seeded and grated cardamom pods and 3 T honey into a large bowl. Cover with clingwrap and chill overnight. Serve topped with a generous spoonful of yoghurt and a few slices of orange and chopped pistachios. Try the overnight oat jar recipe here.
