Here’s how to have the perfect Valentine’s Day celebration at home

By TASTE, 9 February 2023

Gone are the days where your Valentine’s Day decorations need to be red, loud and out there. This Valentine’s Day, why not keep things chic and elegant with muted shades and soft pastels enhanced with fresh and faux blooms? Here are our tips on how to set an effortless Valentine’s dinner in your home.

1. Pick the spot

All you need is a clean, clutter-free corner of your home where you can set up the ultimate Valentine's table. Be sure to wipe the space clean. If you’re sitting near a wall or window with blinds, give it a quick wipe down with scented wipes to remove dust and make the space smell fresh. Your partner will love the extra attention you’ve given to the space!

2. The main feature

Take your table setting up a notch with an interesting feature. Think big vases in different textures filled with flowers and feathers, or fill them with an array of faux and real blooms to make a show-stopping piece. If you’re using fresh flowers, scatter some of the petals on the table for some extra romance. We love Woolies' Coasta Vessel vase filled with an array of faux flowers and faux feather plumes.

3. Set the scene

Once your main feature is set, choose your cutlery and crockery for effortless entertaining. Stick to items that match your colour theme, but use interesting textures. You can also up the décor with gold cutlery, natural-coloured napkins and an array of candles in varying sizes.

4. Fuss-free food

There’s no need to spend hours in the kitchen, simply choose your favourite charcuterie from Woolies, create a platter and enjoy a relaxed dinner. Our top picks are fresh fruit, crackers, a selection of cheeses, chocolates and, of course, bubbly. Keen to make it more substantial? Be sure to add some smoked salmon, an array of spreads, olives and some chocolate-covered nuts.
