CHOOSE BETTER CHOCOLATE

Wouldn’t giving your favourite treat be even sweeter if you knew you were helping to support local farmers and families on the ground, where cocoa is farmed? Woolies is sourcing more and more certified-sustainable cocoa for their chocolates. Through partnering with an international organisation called UTZ, 100% of the cocoa used in Woolworths’ branded boxed chocolates, bars and slabs is responsibly sourced. This means supporting environmentally sound cocoa farming and creating better opportunities for farmers and their families.

GO CRACKERS!

Woolies have been supplied by the same local cracker company for 20 years. Individually handmade by more than 100 local women, many of them single parents, the quality of the crackers are top drawer, and are filled with the regular crowd-pleasers (those corny jokes aren’t going to tell themselves, you know) along with a couple of mini gifts you’ll actually get some use out of! The best part, though? Knowing that by shopping right, you’re making a big difference. Oh, and the thrill of that snap if pretty cool, too.

SWIPE RIGHT

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when confronted with the reality of how many South African kids struggle to read. No-one knows this better than Shine Literacy, who have been tirelessly championing child literacy since 2000. Their 850 volunteers run literacy support programmes for kids in 46 schools across three provinces on a weekly basis. To support this worthy cause, Woolies has partnered with Shine to give 2400 parents and caregivers across SA reading resources and create foundation-phase reading corners in 20 classrooms next year. And you can help. Simply make The Shine Trust a beneficiary on your MySchool or linked Woolies card, then swipe every time you shop at Woolies until 25 December. Now that’s a Christmas gift that keeps on giving. If you haven’t yet, sign up for your MySchool card now and add The Shine Trust as a beneficiary.
