Gift of the Givers and Woolworths aim to feed a million people in need

By Katharine Pope, 7 August 2020

Together, let’s give a million meals. In partnership with Gift of the Givers, Woolworths aims to provide a million meals to families in need. Here’s how you can help.

Woolworths has partnered with Gift of the Givers to distribute food care packs to families in need and people in quarantine or isolation. The bags are put together in consultation with Woolworths’ dietician to ensure they’re filled with a balance of protein, fresh fruit and vegetables and other staples, as well as hygiene products to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

Each bag contains essential non-perishable food items such as rice, flour, oil, peanut butter, UHT milk, tea bags, baked beans, sugar, tuna, and perishable fruit and veggies including potatoes, onions, butternut, sweet potatoes and naartjies. The packs also contain multi-purpose bleach and Sunlight soap to help curb the spread of the virus. It costs R620 to fill a bag to feed a family of five for two weeks, which equates to 210 meals – but every small donation adds up. A donation of as little as R10 can feed someone for a day.

Give what you can

R10 feeds 1 person 3 meals for 1 day
R200 feeds a family of 3 for 1 week
R620 feeds a family of 5 for 2 weeks

The numbers so far:

R602 303 donated
971 bags donated
204 006 meals donated
