In 2015, South African bartenders and gin drinkers were introduced to the super-premium artisanal gin, The Botanist. Now, gin enthusiasts can expect a number of pop up evening events – presented by The Botanist Gin – taking place in unconventional, secret urban spaces in each city. Expect an intimate event with just 30 guests and prepare to enjoy a unique cocktail and food experience, inspired by the local environment.
Leading up to each event, three of South Africa’s finest bartenders in each city will spend time with local foraging experts, Roushanna Gray and Margaret Roberts. The foraging experience will take place in both Cape Town (veld, forest and sea), and Johannesburg (Highveld, Lowveld and Bushveld). Each bartender will then personally hand forage indigenous and seasonal ingredients to create a unique foraged cocktail serve of The Botanist Gin with a local twist. Guests can expect dishes created from local foraged ingredients.
Each night at THE FORAGER, the bartenders will compete in a challenge to craft the most interesting drinks using The Botanist Gin and their own locally hand foraged botanicals. These will be presented to guests who will then cast their vote for the cocktail they felt was the most inspired.
At the end of series, the bartender with the most votes and highest score will win an all-expenses paid trip to the home of The Botanist Gin in Islay to experience first-hand the philosophy behind The Botanist and foraging in the Hebrides.
