Fantastic food-related films featured at the 2015 SA Eco Film Festival
This year’s South African Eco Film Festival – brought to you by MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet – is themed around environmental issues that pose some serious sustainability questions through documentary film, and includes some great food-related films.
Shark-fin soup may not be on everyone’s menu, but in certain parts of the world shark hunting is a sad reality. These are but some of the key issues explored in films such as Extinction Soup (screening tonight 31 March and tomorrow, Wednesday 1 April), featured at this year’s SA Eco Film Festival.
The festival, which has been running since Thursday 26 March, comes to an end on Thursday 2 April so you still have three days to make it to a screening. The festival will be hosted at the following four venues around South Africa: the Bioscope Independent Cinema in Johannesburg, the Asbos Teater in Pretoria, Khula Dhamma Retreat Centre & Ecological Farm near East London and the Labia Theatre in Cape Town. Tickets for the Cape Town, JHB and Pretoria screenings cost R45, of which R5 of each ticket sold will go to Greenpop, a tree-planting organisation based in Cape Town.
Coincidentally, our Features Writer Annette Klinger recently wrote a great piece on eating sustainable seafood. School yourself in SASSI, while trying some delicious sustainable seafood recipes, courtesy of TASTE. And don't forget to catch one (or more) of the fantastic films at the festival!
