Pears poached in saffron syrup

Ingredients
- 3 cups water
- 500 g sugar
- 10 pods cardamon
- a few threads of saffron
- 12 pears, peeled
- buttermilk, for serving (optional)
Cooking Instructions
In a large wok or saucepan, add to the water the sugar, cardamom and saff ron. Bring to a boil.
Add the pears and simmer until they start to soften and the liquid becomes syrupy.
Add the lemon juice and stir through.
Serve warm or cooled with the buttermilk, if using.
