New supersize avos at selected Woolies stores

By TASTE, 7 September 2015

Avo lovers behold: new supersize avocados called KingKados are hitting a select few Woolworths stores in Gauteng – and they’re almost twice the size of an ordinary avo

Woolworths will be making these enormous avos, which are grown on a farm in Tzaneen, available at selected stores in Gauteng for two weeks only. These include Rosebank, Sandton City, Eastgate and Lonehill. For the full list of branches, email Woolworths at custserv@woolworths.co.za.

KingKado avocados, which are aptly named after King Kong owing to their enormity, are not genetically modified. They were initially imported from Mexico, but later grown locally, and have evolved to this size purely because of selective breeding of the fruit bearing the most favourable characteristics (more flesh, smaller seed).

What do you think of them? Love them? Loathe them? Tell us in the comments section below. And while you’re at it, why not try these clever ideas with avos?
