Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is the Hindu festival of lights celebrated around the world. Those living in the southern hemisphere kick off celebrations today. While the significance of the festival differs, it is commonly believed to be a celebration of the victory of good over evil, and light over darkness.
Much to our delight, delicacies abound. If you can’t get your hands on any of the traditional stuff, why not make your own? Here are some super-simple recipes to get you started.

Jalebi
These spiral-shaped sweets are made by deep-frying a batter consisting flour, yoghurt, butter and saffron, topped off with a golden syrup.
