The Bosman Family may have been making wine in the Wellington Valley for eight generations, but they’ve a refreshingly modern way of doing things. The farm, which is certified Fairtrade, is partially owned by its workers, and they’re constantly implementing new ways to make the most of their terroir. An excellent example of this is the Bosman Nero wine, which is produced in collaboration with South African artist, actor and filmmaker Thapelo Makoena.
The Nero is an unconventional wine, made with Nero d’Avola grapes. Hailing from the Italian island of Sicily, this varietal is perfectly suited to the hot, sunny Wellington climate. A medium-bodied, elegant wine, and the first of its kind produced on African soil, the Bosman Family Vineyards Nero boasts fresh berry flavours and pairs perfectly with cured meat, cheeses, lasagne or cannelloni.
