- 12 pitted dates, halved
- 1 vanilla pod, split and seeds removed
- A squeeze of lemon juice
- 3 t honey
- 100 g honeycomb (optional)
- 200 g butter
- 2 star anise
- 1⁄2 t ground cinnamon
Place all the ingredients in a saucepan and heat until the butter has melted.
Serve with toasted or braaied chocolate hot cross buns.
