Rice bowls are all the rage right now and it’s easy to see why. Rice offers a blank canvas for an array of delicious ingredients that can be tailored to your taste buds. Our top pick for a rice bowl? Venison frikkadels in a Durban-style curry sauce. And to make it even quicker to prepare, we used Woolies’ fully cooked rice.
Ingredients
Method
- 900 g Woolworths venison frikkadels with a Durban-style curry sauce pack
- 2 x 250 g Woolworths fully cooked brown and wild rice
- 4 T olive oil
- 200 g cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 red onion, finely chopped
- 1 T lemon juice or vinegar
Method
Ingredients
1. Cook the frikkadels in an air-fryer preheated to 180°C for 15 minutes.
2. Pour the sauce over the frikkadels, return to the air-fryer and cook for a further 15 minutes.
3. Heat the rice in the microwave according to package instructions. Fluff with a fork and divide between 4 bowls.
4. Drizzle each bowl with 1 T olive oil.
5. Toss together the tomatoes, onion and lemon juice. Add to the bowls, then top each bowl with 3–4 frikkadels.

Woolworths venison frikkadels are made with coarsely minced free-range venison – offering a rich, earthy, game-meat flavour – and paired with a Durban-style curry – a vibrant, red-hued, hot and spicy gravy – the result is something totally unexpected but completely delicious. Enjoy it over rice for the most comforting warm bowl or tuck into a mini bunny chow for a wholly and truly South African dish.
