4 veggies other than potatoes that make delicious crisps

Forget your regular spuds. Beetroot, butternut, sweet potato and carrots are just a few alternatives with which to make tasty crisps. Here’s how to make them, plus some great dipping ideas for added flavour punch

While potatoes are a firm favourite, it is said that variety is the spice of life – we couldn’t agree more. As addictive as they are, potatoes don’t go easy on the waistline, but we’re not here to preach Banting or otherwise. All we’re saying is there are other vegetables out there that make as delicious crisps as potatoes. And you should try them!

Sure beetroot, butternut, sweet potato and carrots are delicious roasted, but why not experiment by frying them into delicious crisps? It’s a no-brainer, really. Simply slice your choice of beetroot, butternut, sweet potato (the skins are best) or carrots very thinly and fry them in hot oil until crisp (be sure to drain off the excess oil on kitchen paper).

Enjoy them plain or lightly salted, but for added flavour punch these dips will do the trick: coconut smashed chickpeas, anchovy aïoli and home-made garlicky hummus.

What are your favourite veggie crisps and dips to enjoy with them? Tell us in the comments section below.
