Chocolate cake is always popular on our site, and it was this one by iconic food writer Dorah Sitole that got all the love last month. Just look at it! You can see how moist it is. It’s topped with a decadent chocolate ganache to make it extra delicious.
One thing we know to be true is that you love a proudly South African recipe! It’s no surprise that bobotie made this list. This version is by much-loved cookbook author and TV cook Fatima Sydow. We asked her to share some of her most famous Cape Malay classics with us in a collection that we’ll be posting through February and March – and yes, we’re fairly sure there’ll be more smash hits.
In case you forgot, we have the WList great value hub on our site, which uses ingredients from Woolies’ WList to create budget lunch and dinner recipes without compromising on taste or quality. This hake curry is one of the dinner recipes that comes in at under R50 per serving! Pair it with home-made flatbread or, if you’re pressed for time, make fluffy long-grain rice instead.
Whenever we post deputy food editor Khanya Mzongwana’s butter chicken noodles, it’s a hit. We suggested this dish for a solo Valentine’s dinner, but we’re sure that people made it regardless of their romantic status. It combines two classic dishes into one incredibly comforting meal. What’s not to love?
For one of our Friday Food Fights on Instagram, we asked the TASTE community to tell us how they REALLY feel about toasties. We learnt that 53% of you prefer white bread, 76% believe lettuce on toasties is an abomination, and 91% feel that toasted cheese is the GOAT. No wonder so many of you flocked to this recipe by Phillippa Cheifitz. Bulk ham and cheese toasties for the win!
P.S. If you haven’t tried our Friday Food Fights, you should! They’re a lot of fun. They drop every Friday on our Instagram stories, after 4 pm.
Colourful, carb-concious and ready in just 35 minutes, this may be the perfect midweek meal! You have contributing food editor Hannah Lewry to thank for this one.
When we shared our burger recipe collection, this is the recipe that got the most clicks. Food director Abigail Donnelly’s recipe for the perfect burger patty includes garlic, bread, onions and Worcester sauce. It makes a great base for building your perfect burger, no matter what toppings you like.
On Valentine’s Day, we decided to gift the TASTE community a triple chocolate recipe and you clearly loved it. Abigail Donnelly decked out a chocolate cake (made using a box cake mix) with an easy marble chocolate glaze using white, milk and dark chocolate chips. This is an easy way to transform an ordinary-looking cake and impress your guests.
We’re not sure whether this recipe did well because you were all making steak for Valentine’s Day, or because this recipe is made using an air-fryer. Whatever the reason, it piqued your interest enough to make it all the way to the number 2 spot on this list. FYI, the recipe also includes a guide on how to cook your steak perfectly in an air-fryer – thank us later!
TV chef and TASTE content producer Clement Pedro hit it out of the park with this recipe. It hits all the right notes: it serves 6, comes in at under R45 per serving and is made using one pot. We’re sure this will be one of your favourites from now on.
